Why Zirconia Teeth Are the Gold Standard for Implants — Seera Family Dental & Implant Center

When you invest in All-on-X dental implants, you're making a decision that will affect your smile, your confidence, and your quality of life for decades. One of the most important — and most overlooked — aspects of that decision is the material used for your final teeth.

At Seera Family Dental & Implant Center, we use Zirconia for all of our final All-on-X restorations. Many other implant centers use acrylic, which is cheaper to produce but significantly inferior in every measurable way. Here's why the material matters — and why we refuse to compromise on it.

What Is Zirconia?

Zirconia (zirconium dioxide) is a ceramic material that was originally developed for industrial applications requiring extreme durability — think jet engine components and nuclear reactor cores. In dentistry, it has become the gold standard for crowns, bridges, and implant-supported prosthetics because of its exceptional combination of strength and aesthetics.

Zirconia is:

  • Biocompatible — your body accepts it completely, with no risk of allergic reaction
  • Incredibly strong — resistant to cracking, chipping, and fracture
  • Stain-resistant — it won't discolor from coffee, tea, wine, or tobacco
  • Naturally beautiful — it transmits light similarly to natural tooth enamel, creating a lifelike appearance
  • Metal-free — no dark lines at the gum margin that can appear with metal-based restorations

Zirconia vs. Acrylic: A Direct Comparison

Many implant centers — particularly corporate chains focused on volume — use acrylic (PMMA) for their All-on-X final restorations because it's cheaper and faster to produce. Here's how the two materials compare:

Durability

Zirconia is one of the hardest materials used in dentistry. It can withstand the full force of normal biting and chewing without cracking or chipping. With proper care, Zirconia restorations can last 15–20 years or more.

Acrylic is significantly softer and more brittle. It's prone to cracking, chipping, and fracturing — especially under the forces generated by biting and chewing. Most acrylic restorations need to be replaced within 5–10 years.

Staining

Zirconia is highly resistant to staining. Your teeth will maintain their bright, white appearance even if you drink coffee, tea, or red wine regularly.

Acrylic is porous and absorbs pigments from food and beverages. Over time, acrylic teeth become noticeably yellow or stained — and they can't be whitened.

Aesthetics

Zirconia has a translucency and light-reflecting quality that closely mimics natural tooth enamel. The result is a smile that looks genuinely natural — not artificial.

Acrylic has a more plastic, uniform appearance that can look artificial, especially in photographs or bright lighting.

Comfort

Zirconia is smooth and non-porous, which means bacteria have a harder time adhering to it. This contributes to better oral hygiene and fresher breath.

Acrylic is more porous, which can harbor bacteria and contribute to odor over time.

The Cost Difference — And Why It's Worth It

Zirconia restorations cost more to produce than acrylic. This is why some practices use acrylic — it allows them to advertise lower prices while cutting corners on quality.

At Seera Family Dental, we believe you deserve to know exactly what you're getting. When we quote you a price for All-on-X, it includes Zirconia final teeth — the best material available. We also have a full on-site dental lab, which allows us to produce Zirconia restorations more efficiently and pass those savings on to you.

When you consider that Zirconia lasts two to three times longer than acrylic, the higher upfront cost often results in lower total cost of ownership over the lifetime of your restoration.

Custom-Designed for Your Face

At Seera Family Dental, your Zirconia teeth aren't just made from a better material — they're custom-designed specifically for you. Dr. Seera considers your:

  • Facial features — the shape, size, and proportions of your face
  • Skin tone — to select the most flattering shade of white
  • Aesthetic preferences — your input on the look you want
  • Bite mechanics — to ensure proper function and long-term comfort

The result is a smile that looks like it was made for you — because it was.
